MISSION:
To proclaim and live out the Gospel of Jesus for the unchurched residents in downtown Phoenix, and build a vibrant, reproducing community for the greater Phoenix area.
In order to accomplish our mission, we focus on being a worshipping community, a learning community and a serving community.
Worshipping Community: Ancient-Future Worship
- Use of liturgy from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer translated in contemporary English.
- Singing of ancient hymns and modern praise songs.
- Expectation that God enters into our worship and meets with us.
- Following the Seasons of the Church Year.
- Participatory worship: kneeling to pray, standing to praise, and sitting to hear.
Learning Community: Knowing Christ, Engaging Culture
- Studying the Scriptures, church history and our culture at large.
- Knowing Christ so that we can love him more.
- Engaging our society intellectually and culturally.
Serving Community: Meeting Needs of the Least
- Providing support to the underprivileged within St. George’s.
- Partnering with other churches, homeless shelters, and food and clothing banks in central Phoenix to meet the needs of the underprivileged outside of St. George’s.
CORE VALUES:
These are the values that shape the way we minister the Gospel.
1. Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior of All.
– Jesus is the only way of salvation: belief in Him, His death on the cross for the forgiveness of sin and His resurrection to eternal life.
– We do everything with the goal of lifting up the name of Jesus.
2. The Bible is the Word of God.
– The Holy Spirit uses the Bible as the primary way of speaking to us today.
– The Bible is central to all we believe and do.
3. Christianity is about having a relationship with God, who is Holy and Love.
-- He saves us so that He might make us holy and we might experience His love.
– He calls us to love Him with our entire being.
4. Christianity is about having relationships with other people.
-- Community life is the normal life for a Christian.
– He calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves.
5. Jesus calls us to a sacrificial life of following Him and serving those in need.
-- Jesus set the example of sacrifice and suffering for us to follow.
– He calls us to serve others, especially the poor and needy in this world.
6. Jesus called men to shepherd His church as Servant-Leaders.
– God created men and women as equal in nature, but different in role.
– Men should lovingly lead the church and their families as servants like Jesus.
7. We practice “unity in the Essentials; charity in the non-essentials.”
-- We promote the Essentials (The Apostles’ Creed) for partnerships.
– We exercise grace in the non-essentials with all fellow Christians.
OUR BELIEFS:
St. George’s is an Anglican Church in the Reformed/Evangelical tradition. Our beliefs are summed up in two Christian Creeds, the Anglican “39 Articles of Religion” and in the AMiA’s “Solemn Declaration of Principles.”
