Catchy title! Actually it’s the name of new book by a religion professor at Boston University. The book is about college students and sexuality. I haven’t read it yet, but did just read an interview with the author in Christianity Today. Given that our society is a bit sex-crazed at them moment (maybe its always been…), and given that God created sex (thanks be to God!), I think it is always a relevant issue to discuss. Especially since we are kicking off a new Campus Ministry on the ASU Downtown Campus later this months (Tuesday nights @ 7pm).
Before I send you off to read the article, I want to recommend a book the author refers to in the interview by Lauren Winner called “Real Sex: The Naked Truth About Chastity.” Winner is a Christian (and an Anglican as well). I have read this book and it is excellent.
The CTÂ Interview starts off with this introduction:
Conventional wisdom says that American universities that have lost their religious roots are places where neither spiritual longings nor moral boundaries can get a hearing. But Donna Freitas, a religion professor at Boston University, says that students themselves defy this wisdom by showing an insatiable interest in spirituality and ethics, particularly as they challenge the hypersexed party scene dominant on such campuses. Freitas spoke with CT assistant editor Katelyn Beaty about her latest book, Sex and the Soul, and what nonreligious schools (which Freitas calls spiritual schools) can gain from born-again virgins and evangelical authors such as Joshua Harris and Lauren Winner.
