I Like Trucks!

September 8th, 2008 · 10 Comments

I have been using this blog to present my theological musings, and rightfully so. But sometimes, lighter matters also have to be considered. So, because I do enjoy humor, here goes. On Saturday, my good friend Victor Encinas sent me a video to watch. Victor knows me well, as we go back to high school (as a side note, Victor is a financial coach and has a heart to help people get out of debt and manage their money wisely. Check out his website: Victor Encinas Coaching).

Anyway, to continue the story, the video was funny. Then on Sunday night at church, young Marcus Steele shared a word with us. That word was, “I like trucks.” I give a hearty “Amen” to that. I’m a Ford Truck Man. I’ve been driving F-150′s most of my adult life and have a 2007 4×4 with a USMC sticker in the back window today. So this humor is poked at us manly, truck-diving men. Straight from Ford, here’s “Built Ford Tough (BTF) video, “No Pink Shirts.” Enjoy:

So, what truck would Jesus drive? I drive a Dodge Dakota and we’re allowed to wear any color shirt we want, because no one tells a Dodge man what to wear!

Real men drive hybrids and wear pink shirts. You BFT types need to get in touch with your feminine sides. It’s biblical!

    Jim,
There are some biblical scholars, mostly those who don’t hold to the infallibility of the text and who use modern, reductionist theories, that believe that Jesus drove a Dodge. However, almost all conservative scholars believe that the Lord drove a Ford.
One thing is for certain, both liberal and conservative scholars agree that the Lord most certainly did not drive a Chevrolet. It is interesting that they have found the word Chevrolet in some of the Dead Sea Scrolls and that the root of the word is “wicked.” So the devout communities of Jesus’ day shunned Chevy’s as not being associated with the Kingdom of Light.

Nice try Shane. But I would like for you to notice that Jesus did in fact drive a Chevy. As a matter of fact, He didn’t try to cover up who He was by putting a fish on the back of His truck. He in fact clearly put His name on His truck. If you will notice the name of the truck (which has been mispronounced by many, mostly Southern redneck boys with a “shh” sound) actually begins with the “x” pronounced “chi” followed (in the transliteration of the word) a “p” pronounced “rho” with an “omega” (end all and be all) then a lambda (lamb of the world) and an “eta” (referring to the Last Supper or Eucharist, a giving thanks). St. Paul continued by saying “I pass on to you what I have received of the Lord, that in the night He was betrayed (obviously by a Ford driver), uh, then the rest is lost in translation, but I’m sure He gave thanks for the best truck in the world and verified by many. If you need further info, I can give you the Pentecostal version which can be exegeted by metaphor.

Very funny Shane! So are going to say anything about females that drive Chevy’s?

I bought a Ford truck when I was 20 and three months letter I met my wife and Jesus. So I think this proves it, that many young men stumble and fall; BUT those who sit in the Ford, will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.

You know what they call a woman who drives a Ford?

    Madame Vice-President.

    Semper Fi!

Wow…If I knew this video was going to create this much controversy and entertaining discussion, I would have sent it a long time ago. ;-)

Lydia, if you put lipstick on a Ford, is it still a Ford?

  • 10 Lydia // Sep 11, 2008 at 10:14 am

That depends… if you wrap an old, beat-up Chevy in a new coat of paint – does it still stink like a Chevy?
