I am a big fan of Keller and only becoming a bigger one. He is a pastor who started a church in Manhattan about 20 years ago called Redeemer Presbyterian. He has a heart for the city: “seeking to renew the City Socially, Spiritually & Culturally.” It has grown into a 5000 member church and he now is a leader in helping new churches start in the downtown, cultural centers of cities across the United States. When I began writing down the vision and planting plan for St. George’s, I used some of his material. So I am recommending a couple of items for you.
First is a new book he has written called “The Reason for God: Belief in Age of Skepticism.” Newsweek magazine has a pretty good article on him and the book. The author doesn’t get everything right (Keller is not trying to be the next C.S. Lewis or Rick Warren, and while he’s not a strict 24-hour/6 day creationist, he’s not an evolutionist either…but it is Newsweek!)
Secondly, if you have an extra hour (find the time!), watch this video. It is Keller giving a recent speech at Stanford University on the Reason for God:
